Crafted with lemon extracts born from the land blessed with the sea breezes and sunshine of Enoura
Our Passion Behind “Kankitsuzan Cold Process Soap”
Commitment to Fragrance
The fragrance unfolds with the shifting impressions of Kankitsuzan through the changing seasons. The concept is “Sunlit Drops of Fresh Greenery.” The fragrance, which invites you to take a deep breath with each use, features lemon as the main scent, followed by tranquil frankincense and the bitter aroma of hinoki cypress. The top notes have a strong impression of lively freshness, with a lush, crisp, fresh fragrance of lemon and new leaves, while in the middle notes, the soft and sweet aroma of geranium and marjoram transforms into a warm fragrance. Finally, the scent of sprouts and trees comes in, and a subtle aftertaste of the rustling trees spreads out, bringing back memories of a visit to “Kankitsuzan” where the Enoura Observatory is located.
Commitment to Ingredients
“Kankitsuzan Cold Process Soap” is made of 100% natural ingredients. No synthetic fragrances, colors, preservatives or antioxidants are used.
It is luxuriously blended with extracts and essential oil derived from pesticide-free lemon peels grown in Kankitsuzan.
Commitment to Manufacturing Methods
“Kankitsuzan Cold Process Soap” uses the cold process method, which is the origin of soap dating back to BC.
The process involves a slow reaction of high quality vegetable oils and alkali at low temperatures, followed by maturation and drying for at least 45 days. Soap made by the cold process method is rich in glycerin, which has a moisturizing effect, and is less affected by heat, so the beauty ingredients are utilized as they are.
Commitment to the Feel of Use
“Kankitsuzan Cold Process Soap” is carefully handmade, one bar at a time, and is known for its fine, creamy lather.
The gentle foam envelops the skin, lifting away impurities and dead cells for a clean yet moisturized finish. It is suitable for use on the face as well as the entire body.
Products born from the symbiosis between plants and humans
Sustainability Considerations
The citrus orchard in Kankitsuzan shifted to pesticide-free cultivation when the construction of the Enoura Observatory, owned by the Odawara Art Foundation, began.
Without the use of pesticides, the fruit may be unevenly shaped and the rind may be darkened. “Kankitsuzan Cold Process Soap” was born out of a desire to make effective use of lemons that cannot be shipped for visual reasons.
By adopting the cold process method, we are able to produce soap in a way that is gentle on the environment, generating no waste liquid throughout the process. The packaging is also plastic-free, with the outer box crafted from paulownia wood.
Toward a sustainable manufacturing process
“Kankitsuzan Cold Process Soap” was born out of a project that looked at the sustainability of the farm. “Art & Agriculture” not only provides citrus fruits as raw materials and outsources the rest of the process to a factory, but also visited there to observe the process from the extraction of essential oils and extracts to the completion of the soap, held discussions and adopted a manufacturing process that takes sustainability into consideration. This project was brought to life with the participation of those who share our vision of harmony between plants and humans, taking part in the cultivation and harvest of citrus fruits. We are looking for people who will continue to be involved in agriculture to sharpen their senses, watching the growth of citrus trees in the cycle of the year, feeling changing scents of the farm, the warmth of the soil, and the voices of birds and insects as the seasons change. We aim to develop this project as a sustainable agricultural community.
