Kankitsuzan Neroli Cordial

Neroli and Its Virtues

The neroli blossom — a citrus flower known for its graceful fragrance — has long been cherished in European society since the Middle Ages, prized in both aromatherapy and perfumery.

Renowned for its deeply calming effects, neroli is often called a natural tranquilizer, soothing fatigue and instilling a gentle sense of happiness.

Ways to Enjoy

The Kankitsuzan Neroli Cordial captures the rich, aromatic essence of neroli.
Enjoy it simply with mineral water or sparkling water, in hot drinks such as tea, or as a fragrant accent for desserts. It also pairs beautifully with spirits to create elegant cocktails.

Commitment to Sustainability

Since the construction of the Odawara Art Foundation’s Enoura Observatory began, the citrus groves of Kankitsuzan have been cultivated entirely without the use of pesticides. Art and Agriculture, the organization managing the orchards, has felt tangible changes in the soil itself over the years.

No pesticides are used during the brief season when the neroli blossoms bloom. For the production of the Kankitsuzan Neroli Cordial, each flower is carefully hand-picked in the early morning, when the orchards are still bathed in dew. The blossoms are then sorted while still fresh, gently heated for the shortest possible time to preserve their fragrance, and sealed into each bottle.

The production of Kankitsuzan Neroli Cordial was conceived with the orchard’s sustainability in mind. As part of Art and Agriculture’s agricultural experience program, Shokunō, participants were invited to join the hand-picking of the blossoms and take part in the entire process leading up to the creation of the cordial.

Looking ahead, Art and Agriculture aims to continue offering these immersive agricultural experiences throughout the year — observing the growth of the citrus trees, sensing the changing fragrances of the orchard and the warmth of the soil with each season, and listening to the songs of birds and insects. Through such engagement of all five senses, these events cultivate awareness of nature and aim to nurture a sustainable agricultural community.
